The UBICS-sponsored scientific event will be held at the University of Barcelona’s Faculty of Chemistry’s Enric Casassas Aula Magna on May 14 and 15.

Following the positive reception in 2024, the symposium Active Nano/Microsystems in the Spanish Context will hold its second edition on May 14 and 15 under the name AMES 26. This year, it will be hosted at the Aula Magna Enric Casassas of the Facultat de Química of the University of Barcelona. Additionally, as a complementary activity, an interesting visit to various experimental laboratories working in active matter has been scheduled for the afternoon of May 13. The symposium also invites participation in poster sessions, with prizes for the three finalists.
The scientific event, sponsored by the Institute of Complex Systems (UBICS), will bring together scientists from the nano- and microscale domains of robotics, active matter, and other related systems.
Ames 26 is a free event that is open to all individuals who are interested in the field of active matter, regardless of whether they are experts or simply curious about the most recent interdisciplinary advancements in active nano- and microsystems.
The aim of the meeting is to provide a common space to share and discuss both fundamental and applied studies on active microsystems, foster new collaboration opportunities among research groups, and help strengthen the international visibility of this emerging field. In addition, this edition will include professors from the CHARM-EU program and outreach activities such as NanoInventum.
AMES 26 is an initiative promoted by Dr. Julio Bastos-Arrieta, professor in the Department d’Enginyeria Química i Química Analítica, and Dr. Maria Guix , Ramón y Cajal senior researcher and professor in the Department d’Enginyeria Química i Química Analítica. The symposium has been awarded a €4,500 grant under the call for activities that promote research synergies from the Vice-Rectorate for Research of the University of Barcelona. In addition to UBICS, it is also sponsored by the Faculties of Physics and Chemistry, IdRA, IN2UB, IQTC, l’ICCUB, the Real Sociedad Española de Química (RSEQ), the territorial section of the RSEQ, and the Royal Society of Chemistry.
