Dr. Jose Perelló has been distinguished in the category of Senior Researcher (Mercè Durfort Award) in the first edition of the Premis de Ciència Oberta de Catalunya, convened by the Departament de Recerca i Universitats of the Generalitat de Catalunya
The end of 2025 brings the best news for two UBICS researchers. With a few days apart, Dr. Ricard Alert and Dr. Josep Perelló have been distinguished by the Real Sociedad Española de Física (RSEF) and the Govern de Catalunya, respectively.
On December 4, the XVIII Physics Awards were presented, awarded by the Real Sociedad Española de Física (RSEF) and the Fundación BBVA. This year’s edition recognized the work of Dr. Ricard Alert Zenón in the category of Young Researcher in Theoretical Physics for his contribution in the field of biological physics and complex systems, which offer conceptual and phenomenological advances useful to understand living systems. Dr. Alert is Serra Húnter distinguished professor and ICREA researcher at the Department de Física de la Matèria Condensada at the Facultat de Física of the UB, and head of the Max Planck Research Group on Complex Systems Physics (Germany).

This December 11, the winners of the first edition of the Premis de Ciència Oberta de Catalunya have been announced, which have recognized the research of Dr. Josep Perelló Palou, professor in the Department de Física de la Matèria Condensada at the Facultat de Física of the UB. The also ICREA researcher and founder of the OpenSystems research group has been awarded the Mercè Durfort Award to senior researchers for their extensive career in promoting the principles of open science with a multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach to democratize the generation of knowledge.
In October, the OpenSystems research group, led by Dr. Perelló and also involving other UBICS members such as Isabelle Bonhoure, Ivan Casanovas, Marc Sadurní and Martín F. Díaz, won the CHARM-EU Open Science Award.

The Mercè Durfort Award, which recognizes the promotion of the principles and objectives of open science throughout the scientific career, is endowed with 35,000 euros. For its part, the Physics Awards deliver a total of 50,000 euros among all categories.
The Institute of Complex Systems (UBICS) wants to express its sincere congratulations to Dr. Ricard Alert and Dr. Josep Perelló.
